Guide - How to Install an Over-the-air Update?

How do you even update, anyway? Today here in our blog, we’ll teach you how to update your HybridTeam-powered ROM.

Hybrid Development Team uses the open-source OTA Updates app made by MatthewBooth. You may fork and/or build your own from his GitHub page.

How to Check the Build you are on? – First Things First
Simply tap Settings.

 Tap About phone.

You can now see your current build from there.

How to Update? – The Usual Steps
Updating a HybridTeam ROM is easy.
For Miix, Simply go to Settings > System updates (for Miix).
For AOSP-based ROMs, simply open the OTA Updates app.

If you see this screen, you’re good to go! You’re currently on the latest build. If you see there is an update, however, simply tap the card.

Then, tap download. It may take a while for the update to be downloaded. After its finished downloading, tap Install. It should re-direct you to your recovery. It would take a while for the update to install.

After it has been rebooted, you’re now updated!

HybridTeam’s ROMs update in an ascending and separate order. The latest build does NOT have the patches included with the older update. So make sure to check again for updates after updating.

There is a weird bug on some users that the System Updates app simply reboots to recovery without doing anything. Go to Manual Installation to continue.
To fix it, simply open the app’s settings the first time. Also enable OpenRecoveryScript if the option is disabled. This should make your next update much seamless.

How to Update Manually? – The Unusual, but Easy Step
Due to a weird bug on some users that the System Updates app simply reboots to recovery without doing anything, you may need to install the updates manually.

If you have downloaded the update through the System Updates app, yet the app only reboots to recovery:
  1. Reboot to your recovery. We’ll be using TWRP 3.2.1 for this guide, though the same applies to older TWRP versions.
  2. Tap Install.
  3. Tap Select Storage.
  4. Tap Internal Storage.
  5. Navigate to OTAUpdates.
  6. Flash the update in ascending order
  7. e.g. Miix Build 18.5.1, then Miix Build 18.5.5, then so on.
  8. Reboot your device.

If you have downloaded the update directly from the ROM’s thread, or HybridTeam’s GitHub:
  1. If you downloaded the update through a PC, copy it to your device.
  2. Reboot to your recovery. We’ll be using TWRP 3.2.1 for this guide, though the same applies to older TWRP versions.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. Navigate to where have you copied or downloaded your update.
  5. Flash the update in ascending order.
  6. e.g. Miix Build 18.5.1, then Miix Build 18.5.5, then so on.
  7. Reboot your device.

Again, the latest build does NOT have the patches included with the older update. So make sure that the order of flashing is correct. Never forget to check again for updates after updating.
